Classification of polymers based on polarity:
(1) Ionic polymer
(2) Non-ionic polymer
(1) Ionic polymer:
The active center of the propagating chain is ionized is called ionic polymer. There are two ion present as anionic & cationic. Example: PVC, Polypropylene.
(2) Non-ionic polymer:
The active centers of the propagating chain isn't ionized is called non-ionic polymer. Example: Nylon, Bakelite.
