Classification of polymers based on physical state/ ultimate form & uses

Classification of polymers based on physical state/ ultimate form & uses:

(1) Plastics
(2) Elastomers
(3) Fibres
(4) Liquid resins

(1) Plastics:

There are the polymers which can be shaped into hard & tough utility articles by the application of heat & pressure.

Example: Poly-styrene, PVC, Poly-methyl-metha-acrylate.

(2) Elastomers:

These are the polymers which have rubber like elastic propertie.  It has elasticity.

Example: natural rubber, synthetic rubber, silicon rubber, etc.

(3) Fibres:

The polymers could be drawn into long filament like materials whose length is at least 100 fibres its diameter.

Example: Nylons terylene etc.

(4) Liquid resins:

Polymers used as adhesives, polting compound, sealants, etc in a liquid form are derived as liquid resin.

Example: Epoxy-adhesive, poly-sulphide, sealants, etc.
