Classification according to the backbone/carbon compound chemical composition of polymers

(1) Organic polymer
(2) Inorganic polymer.

(1) Organic polymer:

An organic polymer may be define as a polymer whose backbone chain is essentially made of carbon atoms. However the atoms attached to the side valencies of backbone carbon atoms include hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur, etc. Example: PU, PVC, PE, Rubber. Etc.

(2) Inorganic polymer:

An inorganic polymer may be define as a polymer whose backbone chain is not having carbon atoms. Example: Glass, silicon, rubber, etc.
