Classification according to thermal behavior of polymers:
(2) Thermoplastic polymer.
(1) Thermosetting polymer:
These are the polymers which on heating undergo chemical change and convert into an infusible and insoluble mass. The thermosetting materials undergo a permanent change upon melting & therefore sets to a solid which can't be remelted. Example: Bakelite, phenol, formaldehyde, etc.
(2) Thermoplastic polymer:
These are polymers which soften on heating & stiffen on cooling. Example: Polyethylene, PVC, nylon, etc.
